Recently I had hard drive problems and ended up reinstalling Windows XP.
Apparently the original installation of XP remained, so now when I turn on
the computer it asks me which of the two XPs I have I want to use.

Can anybody tell me how to get rid of the extra XP?

Thanks!

Use the msconfig utility and have it check for and remove invalid boot
paths.

Click Start | Run and type msconfig in the dialogue box. Press <enter>
or clic "OK">

Click on the Boot.ini tab and have it "Check All Boot Paths".

Right click My Computer,
Select Properties,
Click Advanced tab,
Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings button,
Click the Edit button,
Under [Operating systems]
Usually the bottom entry is the one you want to delete.
But make sure that is the correct one.
Back out and Reboot.
