xp not starting up

Help my pc starts up goes to xp screen when I switch it on and then sometimes
login menu, but what happens it locks up and shuts down the monitor and stops
running. This happens mainly when you start up the machine and very rarley
can you log on can any help with this problem. My operating system is XP Home
edition I don't know where to start looking, I did a system restore and and
everthing worked for about four days but now the problem is back and I can't
do a resore now.

Try this when it starting press or tap F8 until you get the Boot up options
you can either select Last Good known configuration or safe Mode and there
Open the Event Viewer and look for error messages(X) and by double click them
you will get more info about the causer, you can copy and paste them in your
next post.

[snip] What virus program do you have, and are you getting regular
updates.Also are you taking all updates from MS.
