XP not seeing disk in floppy drive

have a custom built computer. i have tried three floppy
drives now and cant get XP pro to see the disk in the
drive. it shows the drive in my computer and explorer .
but when i put in a disk is asks me to put a disk in.
from the command promt it says drive not ready. any ideas?

Install sp1.

LOL, installing SP1 does not fix everything. Make sure that you have
the cable on the back of the floppy drive set correctly. It is possible
to connect it upside-down and it will show properly, just not work at all.
