Floppy Drive Not Seeing Disk

i have a custom built computer. i have tried three floppy
drives now and cant get XP pro to see the disk in the
drive. it shows the drive in my computer and explorer .
but when i put in a disk is asks me to put a disk in.
from the command promt it says drive not ready. any ideas?
 
Is the Ribbon Cable Red Stipe aligned with Pin 1 on the drive and
motherboard connector.
