I have XP at home on a Dell Inspiron 8600 notebook. XP attempts to find a
driver for the device, though one is not required. It fails to find a
driver and no longer recognizes the device. The flash drive has been tested
on PC's running 2000 and functioned as it should. Any advice?

Have you tried checking on the Dell website, there could be updated USB
drivers or chipset drivers for your notebook which may resolve the issue.

Have you checked the manufacturers website for the Flash drive if they have
any updates.

Also, insert the device and run Windows Update.
