XP not recognizing drives

HELLLLPPPPPPPP my system has stopped recognizing that I have CD drives. It is not recognizing my CDR or CDRW (ie d & e) drives at all.
I put something in either one and nothing happens. Then when I look in Windows Explorer for them, they are not there.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.
