XP menus are transparent

Running XP Home on a Toshiba laptop, drop down menus are transparent in all
applications (IE, Outlook Exp, Microsoft Games) Can not correct with
either system restore or options in control panel/display/appearance.
Only applies to me as user, the other user (sep log on) is fine, as is safe
mode. Anybody have any ideas.
 
You likely have some third party program installed as Windows does not
support this.

John and David, Thanks for these ideas - I discovered that the NVIDIA
Desktop Manager in Control Panel has an option for enabling transparent menus
which had been selected. Things are fine now. Thanks again. Peter
