XP login text transparent

When trying to type a password in the user sign-in screen in Win XP Home, the
text is transparent. Users are able to sign-in but no asterisks appear.

This should be an impossible setting in the theme or appearance. Something
is probably corrupt in system files. To repair all system files, go to
Start/Run, and type:

SFC /SCANNOW
