Random appearance of Arabic script on icons and dropdown menus

Can't work out how to fix this problem. It seems to have started when
a Vista skin (but not Vista itself) was installed on my PC, which is
running XP Service Pack 2. It was uninstalled about a week later as I
didn't like it but ever since then I get some - but not all - dialogue
boxes, drop down menus and/or buttons, icons, etc. in Arabic script
running right to left. For example, if I go into Control panel, 3 of
the 37 icons are labelled in Arabic. If I open Internet Options, 2 of
the 7 tabs are in Arabic. When I get an Active X pop-up blocker
message nowadays, it's in Arabic. Sometime a page or a drop down menu
is a mixture of English and Arabic. It seems to be spreading too. I've
checked my Language options in the control panel and they are set to
UK English. My anti-virus (BitDefender) can't find anything amiss
either. Can anyone shed any light/tell me how to fix this please?
Thanks,
Debra

If it's not too late, a System Restore point should fix it.
If too late, running a Repair setup from the XP setup CD might be available
to you.

Hi,
I'm afraid it is too late to do a restore. My PC came from Dell with
XP pre-installed and no set-up CD. How could I get hold of one? Is
there any particular part of the Repair prog. I should run? Or can you
think of another solution entirely?
Thanks for your help.

I thought all Dell machines came with a standartd XP setup CD, but if you
don't have one, and can't get one easily from Dell, you might try going to
start/run, to type:

SFC /SCANNOW

Adding to Mark advice: did you have this Package installed at all or is it
just happened after Vista Install?.
Try to change or make sure the Keyboard Layout is correct by doing this:
1. Click Start - Control Panel - Regional and Languages Options.
2. Click Langauges tab.
3. Click Details button. Check your Default Input Language. In my case, it
is "English (United States) - US" and Keyboard Layout - US or UK.

4. Click Advanced Tab.
Make sure the lanaguage set correct and uncheck the Arabic Language from
there and reboot your Computer.

= Make sure the XP Office Language set correct by going to Word Application
and click Tools >> Language >> Set Language :
Mark selected text as:
English U.K.
English U.S.

Click Tools >> Options >> Complex Script Tab and see Months Names set to
what langauge?.

And the Document View:
(*) Left to Right

Click General Tab then click Web Options and there make sure the Language
set to English UK or US or whatever language you want to set under Fonts Tab.
Also under Encoding tab make sure the western Eurpean (windows) selected.

To get to the Dell restore program, which is now sometimes located on a
hidden partition on your hard drive, restart the computer and at the
initial Dell logo screen press CTRL-F11. Although, I think someone was
suggesting that you try the 'System Restore' program from the 'System
tools' menu in WinXP. The Dell restore will wipe out everything and
restore your operating system back to the day you first turned on the
computer - along with all the bloatware Dell forces on you.

One thought, did you look at the entries in Add/Remove programs under
Control Panel for anything having to do with Arabic text? You may be
able to simply uninstall it.

Good luck
