We have several XP/SP1 machines that are dynamically
registering the following entries in DNS:

domain.com. 600 IN A 1xx.xx.9.177
_ldap._tcp.domain.com. 600 IN SRV 0 100 389
wsname.domain.com.
_ldap._tcp.a96b9b82c71f.domains._msdcs.domain.com. 600 IN
SRV 0 100 389 wsname.domain.com.
_ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domain.com. 600 IN SRV 0 100 389
wsname.domain.com.

These XP machines also have a netlogon.dns in sys32\config
and each machine has the following event log entry at the
exact time the netlogon.dns file was created:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: NETLOGON
Event Category: None
Event ID: 5602
Date: 3/26/2004
Time: 5:32:31 PM
User: N/A
Computer: wsname
Description:
An internal error occurred while accessing the computer's
local or network security database.

I found a couple of newsgroup articles with the exact
symptoms, but no resolution (except for turning off
dynamic updates).

Any ideas?

netlogon service should not even be starting on a client
machine. Is it set to Manual but still being started ?

Everything I have ever read stated the netlogon service
was required if you were loggin into a domain?????
So, the service is set to automatic (default) and is
running.
