XP machine hidden on LAN

Dr. Dos

Suddenly, an XP Pro computer cannot be seen on a 4 machine
peer-to-peer LAN. Other machines are mixed Win98 and
Win98SE. All updates are applied to all machines. The XP
machine can see and exchange data with the rest of the
network (XP can initiate data exchange), the rest of the
network cannot see the XP machine (cannot see, find or send
data to the XP machine but can be seen by the XP machine and
receive data from the XP machine). Connections are mixed
100BT and WiFi through a router. All machines can ping each
other. Sharing is turned on, but......
Any leads or advice?

Actually, the fire wall was OFF. I ended up re-installing the network
connections on the XP machine and one of the Win98SE machines. This
works (so far). Damned bloody nuisance, that XP Pro security paranoia.
