John Rust

Hi

I have just renamed the local administrator account on a
XP PC and am now getting probs logging on.

I get an error local account could not be loaded, a
temporary account will be issued, any changes you make
will not be saved using this temp account.

Please help

This is an intermitant problem sometimes it lets me in
sometimes it doesnt

"Intermittent" could indicate there is trouble in registry files for the
account and that eventually it won't be able to load at all. I ran into
that early on with XP. Haven't had the problem since but it can and does
happen.

Another tactic to take for this problem, would be to examine the system for
other startup problems - disable non-essential startup items to see if the
problem loading the user portion of the registry disappears. Check Event
Viewer for any noted errors or trouble spots that coincide with startup.

This seems to be a problem with XP as i dont get the same
problems with W2K. Is this a known fault with versions of
XP say prior to service Pack 1 or is it across the board.

I haven't had the trouble since the second preview version. However, I do
remember reading somewhere that assigning permissions on a group basis,
instead of a per user basis, would help to avoid this from happening.
