Hi all,
I have been trying to resolve an issue in hopes that it will correct
some others.
Currently if I go to Start\Run and type in something like
\\tennisshoes I get prompted for a logon dialogue and of course no
matter what I do it reports bad password and/or user name.
The next test was to use the cmd prompt and do net use
\\tennisshoes\$c and again I get prompted for user name and password
and of course it fails.
I can understand why it fails, there is no computer on the network
named tennisshoes so it can't authenticate against it, but why in the
world am I still getting a prompt for logon when something doesn't
even exist. I would think that the 2003 computer would know that and
say Ooops, sorry that doesn't exist. Something like this would be like
going to a vacant lot holding out your ATM card, getting asked by
something to enter your pin then have that something report, bad pin.
I am on a small network at home using Windows Server 2003 and XP
professional. I have checked various logs and I don't see anything
that would indicate there was problem.
