Hi all,

I have been trying to resolve an issue in hopes that it will correct
some others.

Currently if I go to Start\Run and type in something like
\\tennisshoes I get prompted for a logon dialogue and of course no
matter what I do it reports bad password and/or user name.

The next test was to use the cmd prompt and do net use
\\tennisshoes\$c and again I get prompted for user name and password
and of course it fails.

I can understand why it fails, there is no computer on the network
named tennisshoes so it can't authenticate against it, but why in the
world am I still getting a prompt for logon when something doesn't
even exist. I would think that the 2003 computer would know that and
say Ooops, sorry that doesn't exist. Something like this would be like
going to a vacant lot holding out your ATM card, getting asked by
something to enter your pin then have that something report, bad pin.

I am on a small network at home using Windows Server 2003 and XP
professional. I have checked various logs and I don't see anything
that would indicate there was problem.

The logon failure is due to the 'simple file sharing' being turned off on
the accessed computer. It is logging on as 'guest' and wants that password
(for guest.)

Hi! I have just updated XP. Now I am unable to access the second user. Do
you know how to turn it back on? It shows the name, but nothing happens.
Thanks in advance
