XP locking up

I have a HP Pavilion 8750C that I have upgraded to XP Professional. The
computer locks up on occasion with no error message. The computer was
designed for Windows 98, but it bluescreened more often than it currently
locks up. I am looking for a way to stop or at least diagnose the problem.
