XP Loading Screen Issue

Hello - I have an issue with the Windows XP Loading Screen taking up to five
minutes to complete before the sign in screen appears. The initial boot up
sequence runs quickly and once the Startup process is initialized, that too
completes in decent time.

Does anyone know what goes on 'behind the scenes' while the XP Loading
Screen is being displayed? This 'delay' began about a month ago and I haven't
been able to pin down what the problem could be.

I have run (and run frequently) Spybot and Ad-Aware and have NIV running
(run full scans bi-weekly). I have also recently defragmented my hard drive.
I can run HiJackthis if needed.

Below is my system info:

It depends quite a bit on what's in the startup folder and how many
processes are being processed at startup
