XP Limited User unable to access internet

S

S & J MacKenzie

I am at a total loss. We have had no problems for almost a year, now
Limited Users on our computer cannot access the internet at all. There is
connection to the cable modem, when the user starts and their desktop loads,
the lights on the modem blink away and the connection is good, but nothing
after that.

They cannot access anything to do with the internet, no MSN, no browsers
(MSN Explorer, IE, Firefox). The only thing that seems to fix it is to make
them all Administrators, and there is no way on God's green earth that is
going to happen.

Any help would be great as my hubby is about ready to scream!

Cheers!! :)

Has anyone found a solution to this. I have seen it asked on many forums
but no anser. tried hijackthis/spybot/ms antispyware/fixed
winsock...everything I could think of and everything read. NONE OF THE
LIMITED USERS CAN ACCES INTERNET EXPLORER. It will not start. Get an error
every time "IE has ecountered an error and must close"
Only changes made before this
installed SP2 (which I was against)
updated java
and installed MS Antispyware

Any help please

Hi,
This is probably being caused by malware which the removal tools didn't find
or couldn't remove. You will have to do a *very* thorough search.

From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons, disable suspicious or unknown add-ons.

Then download and run CWShredder, Ad-aware, Spybot (in that order.)
See: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Also note the security tips and other important information on that page.

If unsuccessful with those programs, you may have to post a HijackThis log
to one of the forums listed below. You will receive good help at any of
these forums. You might look for a forum that doesn't have too many
unanswered posts. You should also look for the proper forum for HijackThis
logs and a message along the lines of "Important- Read This First."

Or...
A legitimate program running in the background may be causing this. Disable
(for diagnostic purposes) programs such as pop-up blockers, security,
anti-virus, etc... Anything that might be interfering with IE. You may have
to reinstall, or not reinstall, a program.

This (lengthy) troubleshooting process may help:

Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=276393

Hope this helps,
Don

Sign on as Administrator and make sure that the connection to the Internet
is set to All users and not This user only.
