xp licensing

I have been having trouble upgrading to sp2 due to the fact that my copy of
windows xp is not licensed properly. I originally bought windows xp the day
it came out, but I didn't like it. I went back to windows 2000. If I
registered that copy of Windows xp, is there a way to obtain that license. I
really don't want to buy xp again since I technically already own it.

What is it you want to get? If you have the legal CD and key, that's all
there is.

I do not understand.

You bought Windows XP. You installed Windows XP. You did not LIKE Windows
XP so you uninstalled it from your system, formatted back to Windows 2000
(even though you could have just made Windows XP pretty much look like
Windows 2000 and just had the extra features hidden in the background -
waiting) and now you are complaining about not being able to upgrade to SP2?

Your claim seems to be invalid, as you do not have Windows XP installed in
order to install SP2 - or have you misrepresented?

Or am I misunderstanding and now that SP2 is out, you wish to install
Windows XP and then SP2? If so - go for it - your copy of Windows XP is
still valid as long as you have the CD Key for it.
