Help Windows XP Volume Licensing

Hi everyone,

We are planning on migrating our desktop machines (50+ units) at the
office and some remote locations, to Windows XP Professional.
From what I have read in the MS site and this group about licensing,
there is a way for us to obtain a single Win XP Pro installer and
Volume License Key. If so how can I obtain it? Do I need to buy the
Win XP Full Product and apply a licensing scheme?

If anybody has done this before, can you please help me or point me in
the correct direction.

Thanks in advance.

I have looked-into this myself, plus some of the large-site guys in this
forum gave me advice. In the end I bought OEM licences as the VLK route
seemed to be overly expensive. I can source OEM licences for a very
reasonable price from my main hardware supplier, whereas (here in the UK
anyway) VLKs have to come direct from a Microsoft reseller, and they charge
ridiculous prices. Might be different in the States, I guess.

Obvioulsy the VLK route does have some advantages in terms of rollout
capability, but whether this is worth the (very considerable) extra cost
depends on the size of the site, for one thing.

Hi Ian,

Apparently, VLK's can only be used if the target PC already has an
existing OS. VLK is cheaper than OEM and/or Full Product.
