I've got the full version of xp home loaded on this
computer. If I get the xp pro upgrade and put on this
machine, will that free up the license so I can legally
install my original xp home on another computer?

No--if you use the XP home to qualify for the XP pro upgrade BOTH copies are
bound to your current PC.

No: using the upgrade requires that you keep the upgraded system
around, out of use, in support of the license for the upgrade. You
would need to get a full license of the Pro; or get a new Home copy if
you need one to use elsewhere

Greetings --

No. If you used an Upgrade version of WinXP Pro, the license for
WinXP Home has been subsumed (became an integral part of) by the WinXP
Pro Upgrade license. Basically, you have no license to use the
Upgrade without there first being an earlier qualifying license
permanently in place.
