XP License question

Hi, I am working for a company with my own laptop at the moment. My laptop
has XP media center and is not as stable as required. I would like to
upgrade to XP Pro. The company has 10 unused licenses for XP Pro which they
have purchased legitimately, but it is for the 64 bit version which is not
supported on my PC. We would like to know if it is possible to exchange one
of the license keys for the regular version.

Thanks.

Umm--that sounds like licenses from an Action Pack subscription. Don't they
have any XP pro 32 bit licenses left in the subscription?

Regardless of the license type you cannot exchange it, but you may be able
to use downgrade rights to run 32 bit. VL and OEM have downgrade rights.
Action Pack and retail box do not.

BTW--Media center is a superset of XP Pro (it IS xp pro+ the media center
bits), so if you have stability issues you need to check your hardware and
check installed software for compatibility. Standard XP pro will not fix
your problem.

I thought MC was a superset of XP Home, but thanks for the correction and
the advice.

It's not so much the O/S as the crappy image Dell have given me & without a
CD of Media Center either. I have uninstalled what I can, but i am thinking
that I need to do a clean install. I think I will contact Dell and ask them
if I can buy a copy of the CD.
