XP keeps restarting Repair after new Hardware installed

I have upgraded my PC by changing the mobo, processor,
memory and graphics card. I have used my old HD which has
a copy of XP Pro loaded. It said I needed to repair XP
and now it keeps getting to the installing devices screen
gets about 75% through then reboots, restarts setup and
starts from the installing new devices screeen again.....
This loops continually without making any further
progress, any ideas?

The new hardware is:

Intel 3.0Ghz 800 FSB
Asus P4P800 SE MOBO
512K of Dual channel DDR
GeForce FX5700LE 256Mb TD Graphics Card

Normally, and assuming a retail license (many OEM installations
and licenses are not transferable to a new motherboard - check yours
_before_ starting), unless the new motherboard is virtually identical
(same chipset, same IDE controllers, same BIOS version, etc.) to the
one on which the WinXP installation was originally performed, you'll
need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at
the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q315341

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will also require re-activation, unless you have a Volume
Licensed version of WinXP Pro installed. If it's been more than 120
days since you last activated that specific Product Key, you'll most
likely be able to activate via the internet without problem. If it's
been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone call.

If your original system was built by Compaq, Dell, HP, IBM or other 'brand
name', it is likely that you have an OEM edition of XP. This may be supplied
as a CD with the Brand Name and Microsoft printed on the surface. It may
also be part of a 'system recovery CD set.

Using this to install or repair an existing installation of XP is illegal:
the version of XP may also be configured to inspect the hardware
configuration and abort the installation if it is not the 'original' target
hardware configuration, yes the Installation CD can be modified in order to
perform certain tests and can be set to abort should the configuration be
incorrect.

This may be the cause of your problems, and if so, you'll need to buy an
Upgrade Edition of Windows before you perform the 'upgrade installation' [if
going from Home to Pro] or a Repair installation [if Pro to Pro].

Another possible casue for the failure [rare but does occur] is when there
are trojans or worms which have not been deleted by an anti-virus application.

To remove these you'll need to run a full scan on the hard disk, connecting
it into a working PC.

I upgraded with the exact same mobo and processor... and I'm also having the
same "resetting" issue. No help repairing the install, either.

I think I might have to reinstall Windows. :(

BAR:
If the OP's system was Compaq, Dell, HP, IBM, he wouldn't be able to
"upgrade the motherboard" because they are custom sized. Standard
off-the-shelf motherbords (full, mini, or micro) will not fit into the case.
