XP Jumps back to log in screen

Hi,
I am trying to login on my laptop which has XP pro, and it has been working
fine.

For some reason, when I enter the password (User: Administrator) and return,
it logs in for a split second then it logs me back out to the password screen.

Any clues as to what I need to do?

I followed the instructions as below:

---
Type the following command and press Enter.
CD SYSTEM32
(If that does not work, try CHDIR SYSTEM32)
COPY USERINIT.EXE WSAUPDATER.EX
---

I get the following message: " The system cannot find the specified file "

Any more clues, please.

First, ensure that you are indeed running the command from the System32
directory. You could also try copying userinit.exe from this folder to the
System32 folder:
C:\Windows\System32\dllcache
