XP Internet Searches Fail

WinXP + All Patches & Updates

Searching the internet fails returning a 404 error from
plain.rackshack.net or a cPanel error

Any and ALL Search pages fail.

Typing the URL: http://search.msn.com fails

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First look in add/remove programs for anything you don't recognize. I just
removed one this morning off a customer called new net domains. It was doing
same thing as you describe.
Also run these tools:
spybot -- http://www.safer-networking.org/
ad-aware -- http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

You have what is known as Spyware. There are excellent
tools that you can get to help remove this garbage. SpyBot
Search and Destroy is my favourite. BHODemon is another
excellent program that detects active X controls that have
been installed in your IE Browser and lets you delete the
ones you don't want. Spyware Blaster is excellent.
HijackThis V1.97 is also a good product. All these
programs are free and all help rid you of unwanted
Spyware\Adware.

No viruses, stuck hd in another system and scanned it with
current virus signatures.

No remenents of QHosts found either.

Any other ideas?
