I now have OS 98 on the PC. I'm going to reformat C or should
say have to. Ten years of use and probable lots of bugs... Then I'm
going to install XP Pro. My question is should I do a clean installation
of XP or should I install 98 then upgrade????

Second question is: I have noticed that my XP-Pro labeling on the
box
said "Microsoft Windows XP Professional [Old Version]". Could any one
address this for me? This PC will be a storage and back up PC replacing
and old Acer I have..............Thank You Very much

Guy,

Your challeges are minimal compared to what i'm going through as per Windows
XP Pro, HP Compaq branded system, installing one OS and lots more.

Now back to your own challenges;
1, You must check your system requirements if it will support Windows XP Pro
OS. 2, Check and know if the OS has upgrade version or else you'll have to
format and do a fresh installation of Windows XP Pro OS.
with that you should not have problems installing your new OS.

Secondly, if the OS is liacened you need boder go ahead and install then get
updated upgrades from Microsoft website on the internet, or order for service
Packs if you don't have internet access.

Thank you all for your response and advice. My PC
is a CompaqPresario 5600, 450 Pen II, 256 Ram.
What kind of problems are you having? I have been
told that I can reformat though XP set up Wizard so
I'll try that or I've put together a boot disk and can run
everything in DOS........Thank you again
