XP Install

I am doing a "clean install" of XP Pro on a 20gig hard
drive but when it creates the primary partition, the max
is 2008mb. It won't let me partition the complete drive.
How can I overcome this and have full use of the drive?

Thanks for your help. It's an older system I'm setting up
for my son. 20gig is plenty.

How are you starting the installation.
If you boot to CD, you should be able to delete any existing paritions and
recreate them.

I am booting from the CD. When it gets to the
partitioning step, the max partition size that comes up
is 2008 meg.

I have re-installed 98 with no problems, all 20 gig comes
back. As soon as I try to install XP it only sees 2 gig.

It is possible that Windows XP sees only the free space, and what you
need to do is to delete the primary partition. I assume that there is
nothing of value on the hard disk, as deleting the primary partition will
cause all information that resides on that partition to be lost.
Have you actually deleted the primary partition before beginning this
task?
As well, note that for all practical purposes, Windows XP needs a P-III
or better processor, 256 MB or more RAM, and that 20 GB hard drive is good
enough. If the system falls short in any significant way, stay with Win 98
SE and go no further.
