XP Install Problem

Shawn

During the process of a clean install of XP Pro to a new
hard drive, the mouse and keyboard stop working and I can
no longer complete the install. I have tried the process
repeatedly but I am always stopped between formating the
hard drive/copying boot information and XP loading device
information because I cannot advance ('Next') the
install. Thank you for any help.

You have failing hardware. Test the RAM with Memtest86 from
www.memtest86.com. Allow the test to run for a long time, like all day,
unless you see errors right away. If the RAM is good, test the hard
drive with a diagnostic utility from the drive mftr. If you bought a
retail drive, there probably is a floppy included that has the utility.
Just because the drive is new doesn't mean it isn't bad. In fact, if
hardware is bad it will usually fail right away or else run for years.
