Xp install blocking issue: pcAnywhere 10.0

Please - is there some way to absolutely remove what is blocking this XP
home upgrade from win ME? pcAnywhere 10.0 was removed years ago, I have done
the obvious like removing keys from the registry with the words pcAnywhere
and Symantec. I then do a text search for these -- and user.dat and
system.dat still have these strings even after using regedit to clean them
out. Several other files on the machine also have these strings and I have
deleted what I felt safe deleting. Some appear to be system files. Thanks

This depends on what copy of ME you have,if it a retail version from
microsoft,
simply install xp cd,boot to xp cd,select install, delete the partiton
(ME),create
one then let xp format & install. You'll need to install ME cd briefly when
asked.
Also, whats pcanywhere have to do with an xp upgrade,xp will/would delete the
files if uncompatible, also,if something is running blocking xp,open
services.msc
halt the service or disable it,or run Msconfig & stop service...
