Stanley -- I wanted to give you and other visitors to this chat board a heads
up -- the drivers at the Dell link you provide do NOT work for current model
Inspiron 1521 computers, even though the Dell site says they do. I tried
them, and get error messages and drivers that don't load.
I was about to return the computer to Dell (it wasn't running XP and Vista
isn't acceptable). One tech support guy suggested that the new Inspirons
aren't "compatible" w/ XP???!!!. Then I lucked into finding someone at Dell
who actually helped. He was the return agent I contacted, who just by
coincidence happened to be recently transferred from tech support. He and his
tech buddy found dell XP drivers that work w/ late model Inspirons, and he
gave them to me. The computer now runs normally. I will pass them along to
anyone interested.
Now, I ask anyone reading this: Is Dell incompetent? Unwilling to support XP
anymore? Or both? A very strange episode.
