XP in a new Dell Laptop

Stanley -- I wanted to give you and other visitors to this chat board a heads
up -- the drivers at the Dell link you provide do NOT work for current model
Inspiron 1521 computers, even though the Dell site says they do. I tried
them, and get error messages and drivers that don't load.

I was about to return the computer to Dell (it wasn't running XP and Vista
isn't acceptable). One tech support guy suggested that the new Inspirons
aren't "compatible" w/ XP???!!!. Then I lucked into finding someone at Dell
who actually helped. He was the return agent I contacted, who just by
coincidence happened to be recently transferred from tech support. He and his
tech buddy found dell XP drivers that work w/ late model Inspirons, and he
gave them to me. The computer now runs normally. I will pass them along to
anyone interested.

Now, I ask anyone reading this: Is Dell incompetent? Unwilling to support XP
anymore? Or both? A very strange episode.

Hey can I get those XP drivers from you? The ones off of Dell's website
don't do anything and i'm desperate to get XP working on my Inspiron 1521!

Thanks in advance,

Jeff -- Sure, of course. The only hitch is the drivers add up to 171 mb, so
sending you a CD sounds like the best option. I may be able to use
"yousendit.com", which is a site that offers FTP download service, for
sending large files, but I'd have to do that tomorrow or later today. Let me
know your thoughts. Reach me at (e-mail address removed). Thanks. -- David

P.S. -- This is pretty pathetic on Dell's part, that we have to scramble
this way to make their damn machine work.

Unless Dell has fixed them since last SEpt., the ones on their site for XP
and the 1521 are bad. I tried loading them and you get errors. I managed to
get the right ones -- just by luck -- from a tech at DEll. If you want, I'll
give them to youi.
