I have an extra drive (D:) in my computer. I use it for backup only,
and can't figure out how to hide it from other users.

Any info. appreciated.

Les,

If you just want to hide a drive letter in My Computer window [users can still access it from other ways], use TweakUI

TweakUI v2.00 for Windows XP/XP MCE [564 KB].
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

TweakUI v2.10 for Windows XP SP1/XP MCE/2003 [147 KB].
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

Start TweakUI > MyComputer > Drives.

On the otherhand, if you need to restrict others from accessing the files on D:\ partition, use NTFS permissions instead.

Open disk manager right click the partition then "change
drive letter" hit remove , this will remove the drive
letter so XP wont be able to access it to make it visible
again repeat and hit add to alocate a drive letter again.

If you cant find the disc manager it can be found at
(WINDOWS or WINNT)\System 32\diskmgmt.msc - Double click
this or create a shortcut to it in right click menu.
