I have alot of xp hot fix programs in my add and remove
program folder. What are these and how do I remove them
without hurting my computer?

Hi

They are the Windows Updates. There are some Critical/Security Updates there that shouldn't be removed. If you wish to find out what each does - look at the Hotfix number, then search www.microsoft.com

These are the windows updates that you've been installing all
along

and how do I remove them
without hurting my computer?

Do *not* remove them. Doing so will put back the security
exposures that they were designed to fix.

Those are there so you could *uninstall* the Hotfix patches installed by
Windows Update. Each corresponds to a folder of files needed for the
purpose - Windows\$NTUninstallQnnnnnn$ for the fix described at
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;nnnnnn

If you decide you will not want to uninstall a fix (and if all is
running smoothly you probably won't) then delete the folder. If you
then try in Add/remove, to Remove that one, it will fail, and you will
be offered the option of removing the entry there

There is a utility on http://www.dougknox.com/ that will take care of removin
the uninstall folders and the entries in add/remove programs.

You don't want to uninstall the hotfixes, you want to uninstall the folders, etc
that would uninstall the hotfixes, --if that makes sense.
