Hi, I bought a new computer 2 years ago which came bundled with xp home. The
product was registered in my name but this computer has since defunct. I am
building a new machine and was wondering if I am entitled to use my previuos
version on my new machine. The previous version was an OEM version and came
on setup disks provided with the machine and these disks wont setup on the
new machine presumably due to motherboard drivers. In short it wont setup
and doesnt work on the new machine. I still have the holographic serial
number, setup disks and case for the old machine. Is it possible to obtain
another set of setup disks) sent to me?

Another set will only duplicate the oem disks that wont set-up on any
diffrent type of board...Best bet,purchase a retail version of xp.

OEM means that the Windows was licensed only for the first
machine and it isn't transferable to another machine.

A retail version of Windows can be moved from machine to
machine, but the front-end cost is higher. Unless you
upgrade machines more than every two years or so, OEM is
cheaper.

You can buy a Microsoft OEM Windows or you can get a retail
Windows, if you plan to build many machines, retail will be
less expensive in the long run, however when you remove
Windows what will you do with the old machine?
