XP Home w/sp2 Explorer.exe problem

I get a runtime error 217 and an application pop-up from explorer.exe

Any suggestions? Fixes?

hopefully this won't show up as a second message.. the first said there was
a problem with the system and my first message wasn't posted sucessfully.

try start/run/type: msconfig and uncheck all the items in start windows then
restart the computer...if don't help to find the problem...read:
Explorer.exe may generate an application error when you close a folder:

I tried this and other things that I found on the internet. The problem was
that the filesystem was corrupt and chkdsk couldn't fix it. Thank goodness I
keep a backup of all my important files and have a recovery dvd from Compaq.
I deleted all the partitons and reinstalled the OS/Applications and
everything works as it should now.

*** READ THE FOLLOWING ***

Before anyone else does this, Consider what you're doing. Deleting partitons
WILL result in LOST DATA. Only do this as a last resort.
