I just bought a laptop. it has XP home, version 2002
with service pack 2. i want to upgrade to xp pro. the
retailer sold me the retail version of xp pro upgrade,
but the version of xp is older than the version on my new
laptop and it will not install. i assume the retail
version i bought was service pack 1.

anyway, how can i get a retail version of the xp pro
upgrade from xp home that has service pack 2

Last time I checked Best Buy there were not available.

But, if you have a CD burner, you can slipstream the Pro CD and SP2 to
create an XP Pro CD with SP2 merged. Do a Google search on Slipstreaming and
you will find the procedure.

Uninstall sp2 - upgrade to xp pro - install sp2
If the original installation is OEM with SP2 included there won't be an
option to uninstall SP2.
