Installed Xp Home SP1 - shared drive C - was able to access all files and
folders form my other PC.
Installed SP2 and the C share only shows the folders but get access denied
when I try to open the folder.

I am so used to XP Pro that does not have this problem

What am I doing wrong?

Hello

Sharing the C Drive is not a recommended action. If you're network is not
secure - or becomes unsecure, you're C drive becomes accessible by anyone
with Wireless Internet.

However, if you do wish to Share the C: in Windows try following these steps:

Step 1:
Unshare the C: over your Network

Step 2:
Right Click your C:
Click on Sharing and Security
Choose to Share it over the Network
Check the box allowing Network users to change settings.

Step 3:
Apply the Changes

Step 4:
Disable your Windows Firewall (Which came installed with Service Pack 2) -
you can find these settings in Control Panel.

Attempt to Access the C Drive now.
It could have been related to a simple permissions problem. You're C: was
shared and working fine with Service Pack 1 - but when you had upgraded - and
installed several security updates, the windows firewall and other
"Wonderful" components of Service Pack 2. ; some security settings most
likely changed.

This should work - If not, I'm sure we can think of new steps to Try!

Thanks

Tried that already - no luck..the only folder that I can open is a new one I
created after I shared the C drive

do a clean SP2 install - no problem here!
However, XP Home (by default) will not let you share the "Windows" and "Program Files" folder since these are system folders.

As you have been told, XP Home has the limitation of not allowing you to
share the Windows, Program Files folders, and users' home directories (My
Documents). However, you can share directories within those locations.
Normally there is no reason to share Program Files and certainly not the
Windows folder. With XP Home, the better solution for sharing is to put
common documents in the Shared Documents folder.

If you have directories at the root of the C: drive that must be shared, you
will need to do this individually.

If you are trying to run XP Home in a business, an even better solution
would be to upgrade to XP Pro, disable Simple Sharing (which you cannot do
in Home), and set your permissions accordingly.
