Xp Home Running Very Slow

Hi Can anybody help.
I'm running XP home with Avg anti virus all the update done when I set it up
and it was working fine no Ferrari but quick enough,but for some reason it
has slowed down to a crawl when opening any programs when clicking on
windows explorer it can take minuet or more to open it used to be instant.
It is the same with all other programs Any ideas as to the problem.

Do a disk clean up. Double-click my computer, right-click your hard drive, disk
clean-up. It may take a while. When your cache(s) are full you will get a slow down.

Disable the antivirus and see if your programs open any quicker, you may
have avg checking everything you do on your system i.e checking exe's before
opening them.

No Disabling AVG made no difference but it had been going fine with AVG
running anyway.
