I was just doing some browsing and came upon, and read your situation.
I had similar problems with my IBM system. Performed recovery repairs a
couple of times (messing too much around..lol), and finally had a
situation where where the recovery program could not be accessed. IBM
did send me disks to reformat my drive to the original OEM condition
without using the recovery programs on the hard drive, hence they do
have them. If speaking with them, I would ask HP specifically for those
CD'S explaining you want to reformat from cd.
Just as a point, if you have data on the harddrive you want to get off.
Connect your hard drive to a second working computer and copy the data
off of your hardrive prior to the reformat.
