XP Home: Problem in writing Window Memory Diagnostic Tool to CD

Mr. Low

Dear Sir,

My OS faced some problem today, and MS has directed me to Window Memory
Diagnostic Tool site for trouble shooting.

I have downloaded the tool to my desktop but have difficulty in writing it
to a CD ROM.

The error message was "unable to open file for writing".

May I know how to overcome this problem

Thanks

Low

What are you using to write it to a CD? And why do you want to write
it to a cd rom? If MS gave you a web page to go to, to get this tool,
the page normally has directions on what to do. If you include the
link, others could evaluate your issue better.

See this link on how to use the Memory Diagnostic Tool
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp#top

You will find that the CD file is an ISO file. You will need CD burning
software such as Nero or Roxio and you will need to use the burn ISO
feature. If you haven' got either of these application a good 'free' burner
is Deep Burner (http://www.deepburner.com )

Hello John,

I have downloaded Cdburn.exe utility from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&DisplayLang=en but it does not work.

Is this download same as deep burner ?

Thanks

Low
The directions on that page say that the mtinst.exe should give you an
option to save an ISO image for CD. Once you do that, and save the iso
file it wants to create to some place on your computer, then cdburn or
imgburn or deepburn can be used to burn that file to a cd. Then you
reboot your PC with that CD in the drive. Your pc will have to be able
to boot from a CD. That might need to be adjusted. But lets not go
there.

This is a bit complex but print out that web page. It seems to be pretty
straight forward other then needing a burning program that works.

Hello Low,

The end result amounts to the same. Both will produce a bootable CD,
however, Deep Burner has more features. The choice is yours as to which you
use. However, I suggest you read the details on this link
http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm (about three
quarters down the page you will see instructions on how to burn the ISO
using the Cdburn utility.

I forgot to mention that Cdburn is a command line utility whereas Deep
Burner is more user friendly. Personally, unless you have Nero or Roxio on
your system I would use Deep Burner.
