xp home operating system

Recently, I started finding bad block errors on my system hard drive. I have
secured a new larger drive and copied data to it.

I would like to move the primary operating system and files to it and use
this new disk as primary boot disk for my system. It seems that this is much
more difficult to accomplish than with eariler windows operating systems.

Any suggestions to avoid installing all programs fresh?

Look at "Ghost".

As Steve has said, use Ghost or True Image. But, I would add a caution here!

It is entirely possible that some critical information on the old drive has
already been corrupted or lost. If you image the old system over to the new
drive you may well have problems down the road that you can't find your way
out of.

It would be best, in this case, to install the operating system fresh on the
new hard drive.

Go to the hard drive manufacturer's web site. Most of them have free
utilities you can download to copy your old drive to the new one.

Good luck
