XP home not recognising ram

B

Bob

I have a 3.0gb pentium with 512mb ddr 400 ram - gigabyte
motherboard - running xp home. I recently added another
512mb same as above and found that xp ignored it. I
replaced the original with the new ram with no problems.
I tried moving the ram to different slots with no
problem, the system just refused to recognise more than
512mb no matter where I put the ram cards.
Any ideas?

Not my field but is each type of RAM identical?

Don't know about your motherboard but mine is like this:
It supports only one 400 two 333 and three of lower.

Or thats how I understood the text in the manual.
I might be wrong here.

So it might be that your motherboard dosen't support more
than one 400.
