I started getting this message a couple of days ago. I do not have a
network, Sony VAIO connected directly to cable via Motorola Modem. I have
tried to change the address but still get the conflict and this kills my
connection. I have to turn modem off and then on to get back online.

Thanks for any help.

Contact your Internet service provider. Something might be wrong on
their network.

Steve,

Thanks. I contacted them when this first started happening & they told me
that I must have picked up something from the net and that I should clean the
system. I'm pretty particular about where I go, yet my nephew and niece are
not. So I did a format and complete reinstall of software. Not a total
waste of time, but a pain.

This time, I got a tech who apologized and gave me a new address. Problem
gone.

You're welcome, Paul. I think that whoever you talked to the first
time gave you bad information. I'm glad that it went better this
time. Thanks for reporting the result.
