XP Home & Networking!!

Experiencing LAN problems on XP Home.....
Summary: Have swapped out one of my pcs (W2K), to a 2nd
XP Home. Prior to swap out W2K PC was my ICS and also
hosted various networks shares (printer/faxes etc). I
have removed the W2K from the network and installed the
new XP Pc. What else did I do:

Configured LAN with 192.168.0.1 IP (as required by my
broadband).
Configured BT Broadband (no connection problems locally).
Added new PC to standard MSHOME workgroup.
So far so good.

Can see (most of the time) both PCs in "View WorkGroup",
but when attempting to access am getting "\\PCNAME is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource etc...etc.." Also when I attempt to
ping this pc's ip number get "Request Time out".

Put old PC (W2K) back onto the network, and this pc can
see/access both the Home XP pcs!! Also XPs can connect
and ping the W2K.

What have I tried:
Created identitical accounts on both XPs.
Ensured IPs and PC Node Names are unique.
Installed IPX (made no difference so took it off).
Installed NetBios (made no difference so took it off).
Installed NetBEUI (made no difference so took it off).
Firewall disabled on both XPs machines.

Am seriously considering downgrading my XP box back to
W2K.

Please help!!
Thanks
MsElfin

Do you have two network cards in the XP machine or one?
Typically, ICS will switch your LAN card to use 192.168.0.1 so I am
concerned that if you have two NICs, assign 192.168.0.1 to the broadband
NIC as required by your broadband provider), then share (ICS) that NIC
which means that ICS tries to set the local NIC to 192.168.0.1 causing
conflicts.

Try to connect the new XP machine to only the local network and see if it's
accessible from other machines.
Otherwise post a reply here with ipconfig /all output from XP and from your
old W2K machine.
