Does anyone know how to deal with the following:

My wife owns a Toshiba laptop, bought in Germnay, with German version of XP
home. We now are living in Australia, and wish to change the user interface
language to English, but retain the ability to switch to German as necessary.
We also want to be able to switch between English and German keyboard
layouts, includign using German keyboard layout with Enlish user interrface.
Can anyone tell me what to do? Is there a way to do this other than buying an
English version of the OS and contnually reinstalling the required one?

Thanks in advance,

Jim Franklin

Hi Jim,
Try to Install the Multi-lingual package from your XP CD installations for
German language.
To do that click Start >> Control panel >> Date, time and Regional languages
and under languages check the box for German to add german language, you may
be asked to insert your CD to install the package.
Another here is the link for multilingual package:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...36-8EBB-483C-940C-A2FBF00AE692&displaylang=en

After this try to instll the language on your Browser by clicking on ToolsOn the Langauges Settings click the Add button to add german as a second
language and click [OK] to confirm your changes and close the IE properties.
When you want to access the German language lcik on View >> Encoding >> Be
sure the AutoSelect is selected and click/pause on More>> and select german
lanaguage.
HTH.
Let us know.

Hi Jim,

The German version of Windows XP is fully localized and you cannot change
the interface to English except with a reinstallation. You will have to buy
an English version of Windows XP and a MUI (multi-user interface pack) to
accomplish what you want. A clean install will also be needed, because you
cannot run the repair.

You can change/add/remove keyboard layout in Start/Control panel/Regional
and language options. It does not matter which language you are using for
your menus.
