XP Home / local security policy questions

Stewart Bourke

I am trying to get an application working which under Windows 2000 (and also
XP pro) requires me to access the local policy manager (Control
Panel|Administrative tools|Local policy Manager) to set a couple of things
like 'act as part of the operating system' and 'create a token object' but
in XP Home (with SP2) I do not seem to have this facility. Could someone
tell me please how to set these facilities in XP Home with SP2 installed?

Many thanks,

Stewart Bourke

These two items do not come with XP Home edition:
gpedit.msc = Group Policy
secpol.msc = Local Security Settings

In a word you cannot 'create a token object' or 'act as part of the
operating system' with XP Home. You need Pro to do any of that.

Wesley,

Many thanks for the reply. I use my laptop for a lot of development, and
one web application that I am working on needs to run as an ISAPI on a
deerfield webserver (legacy reasons - beyond my control) which need this
facility. I wanted to be able to run this application on my laptop without
the need to upgrade to pro. Do you know if there is any way around this
without u/g to pro?

Thanks,

Stewart Bourke
