You're sure about this? I remember reading sometime ago
that there is a way for XP Home machines to access
resources on a W2K domain server, but I'll be damned if I
can remember what it said about the technique for doing so.
You can access resources if you provide the appropriate credentials, but you
can't join the domain.
For example:
net use x: \\servername\sharename /user:domainname\username <enter>
XP Home can not join a domain (authenticate). It can access shared
resources with the right privileges, but your OP wasn't asking about
accessing domain resources.
