Mr. Low

Dear Sir,

My PC is running on Window XP Home Edition. It is a Pentium 4 PC with 520
MB of RAM.

I noticed quite often that the desktop program such as Outlook Express, MS
Works Spreadsheet and Word Processor can easily become unresponsive after my
PC is idle for some time.

I need to exit these unresponsive program by Ctrl +Alt + Del > End Task.
Usually an error log would be sent from my PC to MS for this event.

I have scanned my PC using Window Defender, performing system maintenance
using check disk , disk defragmenter and disk clean up. However these
problem still unresolved.

For your information, my PC is up-to-date in term of Window updates and
Service Packs

May I know if there is any trouble shooting tool or driver / utilities
downloads available at MS Website to fix this problem?

What I am hoping most is for my PC to run smoothly .

Thanks

Low

perhaps your network connection is being shut down to save power. Look
in Device Manager at the network adapter properties, and on the Power
management tab, UNcheck the box for Allow computer to turn off........

Hello Bob,

Thanks for your reply.

But I think the Auto Power Off mode only shut down the screen not the CPU.

Any other ideas from anybody ?

Thanks

Low

First, please don't use sig separator AND top post, it removes quoted
material. Second, we are not talking about the screen, the CPU, or Auto
Power Off mode. We are talking about Power Management of hardware in
Device manager of individual components, which the operating system can
shut off to conserve power. If the network card is powered down, then
external access by the programs indicated having been lost will cause
them to stop responding. Start by looking where I indicated.

Hello Bob,

I would like to try your steps.

Can you show me how to get to the devise manager ?

I could not find it under Control Panel.

Thanks

Switch to Classic View

Any of the following will work
In "Control Panel" select "System" then the Hardware tab
or
On the Desktop, R-click My Computer, select Manage, it is in System Tools.
or
Start, run, devmgmt.msc
