My neighbours XP Home pc boots through log on screen, shows the desktop
with icons, but freezes on loading the taskbar. Starting in safemode has
the same outcome.
The pc is accessible via a network connection and AV & AT scans show the pc
clean.
ctrl-alt-del brings up task monitor and allows shut down. Shutdown or
restart always give explorer not responding warning. End now allows
shutdown or restart.
I can run msconfig via task monitor, and selecting diagnostic or selective
start up (unchecking all start up items) has no effect.
A repair install of XP home has not altered the situation.
