XP Home file compression

This is what my Help and Support says in XP Home for creating a compressed
folder:

To create a zipped compressed folder
Open My Computer.
Double-click a drive or folder.
On the File menu, point to New, and then click Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Type a name for the new folder, and then press ENTER.

When I get on the File menu and point to New, there is no choice for
Compressed Folder. What don't I have set right?

I have used some zip utilities in the past, but have uninstalled each of
them using their uninstall or my Add/Remove feature.

Try right clicking on the file you want to compress, and see if you have an
option to add it to a compressed file.

When I right click a file and click SENDTO, it gives me the choice of sending
to a compressed file. When I do this, I can't find the compressed file.
Shows how slow I am!! I have just noticed an entry for Iomega Active Disk in
my Control Panel list but it won't OPEN nor do I have any Iomega files in
Search. I wondered if this could be what is blocking me from having a
COMPRESSED folder offered in the NEW tab under FILE in MY COMPUTER when I
right click C drive?

I don't know on that.
I just checked mine - I use winrar for file compression ( 3rd party), and
when I click on file/new in explorer, I do have the option to either send
to a winrar compressed file, or create a new winrar compressed file. I do
not have the option to send to XP's included file compression utility -
don't know if it was not there to begin with, or if winrar simply replaced
it as an option.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge on this will be able to get you
further.

The facility may well have been turned off when installing third party
zip software. Start - Run and run the line
regsvr32 zipfldr.dll
