xp home error code 43

I have recently loaded xp home onto a P2-350MHz with ASUS
main board. This unit was running Windows ME well in its
current hardware format. The load was a clean load of the
HD. Following the XP load it be came apparent that no
modem was addressable. Looking at the device manager the
com ports were shut down. No conflicts are eveident. Error
Code 43 is given as the explanation. seeing as ME was
running the COM Ports and modem this is not a hardware
problem but an XP problem.
Has anyone come accoress this situation before and if so
what is the solution ??

I remember this was an issue for OLD Asus motherboards. Bios updates were
issued to fix this issue.
