My computer came with XP Home Edition. I want to change or
up grade to XP Professional. I was told I could upgrade
Home Edition to XP Professional by installing XP
Professional upgrade. Is this true or will I have to
install all the XP Professional software?

Note: if you upgrade an oem computer with windows xp home pre-installed to
xp pro, you will most likely void your warranty and support from the
manufacturer of the computer. Call the oem first to verify.

What do you mean "all the XP Professional software"? If you buy XP Pro,
all you get is an operating system. If your computer came with
applications like MS Works or Office or MusicMatch, etc. that is
because those programs were bundled and preinstalled by HP or Compaq or
Dell (or whoever).

Yes, you can upgrade XP Home to Professional. There is no special
upgrade version just for this, but the regular XP Professional

asking whether you can use the upgrade version rather than the
full version, the answer, as I said above, is yes. If you mean

from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use these

Ken, I was talking about the full version. I use

professional at work and I like the lay out and the looks
of the screens better and it is easier for me to use. Will
this change with an upgrade.

Umm Home and Pro can both be configured to LOOK identical.........

You can use the full version for an upgrade too (but not the OEM
version, which many people confuse with the full version.

However, do *not* do this; it will just be a waste of money. The
layout and the looks of the screens are identical in the two
versions. This is not one of the differences between them. Any
differences you are seeing between what you have at home and at
work are solely in how you have them configured. For example, one
may be using the new XP view, and the other the classic view.
Provide some details as to what you're seeing, and we can help
you make your Home version look just like the Professional
version at work.
