XP Home Edition will not remember folder settings

I have a home laptop which will not remember the folder settings. According
to MS, when SP2 was released this problem was fixed. I have SP2, as well as
all the latest updates, except IE7, installed. Still the problem remains.
For no obvious reason, XP will "forget" the settings on the folders,
defaulting to large icon.

It's not a major problem; just a huge aggravation. Anyone have any ideas?

HP Pavilion ZE4805, 512MB RAM, 80GB HD, XP Home Edition.

You've set up explorer to view the folders the way you want, then
Tools / Folder Options, Then View - clicked on apply to all folders
then selected the Remember each folder view settings?

Had the same problem but it only seemed like it was my recycle bin.
attached is link. You can try it. It fixed my problem. The answer came
directly from MS and it worked for me.

Most likely the index for saved views is full & the Recycle Bin's view is
being deleted
to make room for new ones.

Is your machine running SP2?

Kelly's tweak should fix the problem, but all saved folder views will be
lost.

Line 2: Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000

Exactly. I set Windows Explorer as I want. Then, go to Tools>Folder
Options>View and click on Apply to All Folders. This works for a bit. Then,
for no plausible reason, XP "forgets" my settings.

I'll certainly give it a try. Thanks

Sorry, forgot to tell you SP2 is installed. MS's "fix" said the problem was
resolved when SP2 was installed. I had the folder view size set to 5500, but
that may not have been enough. I checked and the actual number of folders
was close to 5500. Should have checked that first.

Thanks for your input.

Pre SP2 that value was set to 400. SP2 increased it to 5000. Kelly's fix
raises it to 8000. I think that's the max. (not sure about that).
